Artists 4 Artists was a trailblazing artist-led initiative activating industry change for the UK Hip Hop community, founded to address inequality and the lack of developmental avenues for Hip Hop artists. A4A curated responsive opportunities nationally to further artists and the position of Hip Hop in the dance sector, being a vital conduit between freelance Hip Hop choreographers and regional venues and organisations.
Artists 4 Artists models now sit under the Just Us umbrella to expand our offer of support for artists and provide more impactful progression routes for the developing Hip Hop theatre sector.
Artists 4 Growth is an artistic development week for 10 -15 Hip Hop emerging makers aiming to sustain a choreographic career. Introducing vital artistic tools led by fore fronting sector specialists in dramaturg, theatre, spoken word, sound and producing. JUDT will run Artists 4 Growth in 5 regions across the UK throughout 2024.
“I have felt clouded and non-existent, now I have made a network of peers where there is a mutual need and want for support, I have made the right connections to help me moving forward” – Artist on Artists 4 Growth, Birmingham.
New & Notable is about mobilising learning into action, by putting the artists choreographic tools learnt from the Artists 4 Growth weeks into practice.
Two artists from each region will then progress onto our New & Notable programme where they will build a network, collaborate, make and tour a piece of work, connect with producers, access seed funding and exchange with our Brazil New & Notable artists (Novo Notável).
New & Notable makes a clear proposition: in order for early career artists to develop their artistic voice and entrepreneurial instincts they need the support of a producer and an audience from the very start of the creative process.
The process is designed to build the relationships between individual choreographers and producers; it will encourage best practice in their working process and develop their skills in articulating their ideas to partners and cultural diverse audiences.
The last phase is cross-cultural exchange with artists in Brazil who have been on the same journey, strengthening international connections for UK artists.
